*** MEDIA RELEASE ***

The Waterloo Morada Fire District awarded SAFER Grant for the hiring of 3 new firefighters.

The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) is a federal grant created to provide funding directly to fire departments to help increase or maintain the number of trained, "front line" firefighters.

This is great news for the Fire District and for the community.  With this 100% FEMA funded grant (wages & benefits), we will be able to hire 3 more additional firefighters. This will add another first responder to Engine 2 per shift. Bringing our staffing level to 7 on-duty per day.

Stay tuned for an upcoming firefighter application/recruitment announcement.

New Engine 152 was placed in service on August 19, 2021. Engine 152 will serve as the first out apparatus at Station 152 located on E. Eight Mile Rd. The purchase of E152 was another monumental step in replacing aging apparatus with funds from "Measure N".

Last night the Waterloo Morada Fire District Board said goodbye to a longtime friend and volunteer. Bill Snyder (pictured on the left) joined the WMFD in 1986 as a Volunteer Firefighter. In 1996, he was elected to the Board of Directors and has served with dedication for 23 years. Bill retired from San Joaquin County Public Works a few years ago and plans to do more traveling. Everyone here at the district is thankful for Bill's dedication and commitment to the fire service and the citizens we serve. Bill says a highlight of his tenure was being involved with the passing of Measure N and is comfortable leaving the district in a better place than when he started. Thanks Bill.

Join us on Facebook  April 10th at 6:00 pm for a Live Chat with the Fire Chief.  We will be answering questions regarding the fire district, the "State of the District" and Measure N.  Look forward to you joining us.

3/21/2019The Waterloo Morada Rural County Fire Protection District provides critical emergency life-saving and fire protection services to our community, covering 36 square miles and about 12,000 residents. It is a single-purpose Special District, completely independent from the State, the County of San Joaquin and the City of Stockton.   The Fire District has been consistently been providing critical emergency life-saving and fire protection services without a local tax rate increase for more than 30 years. Not surprisingly, the funding for local fire protection and emergency response services has not kept pace with the increases in demand for services, or with the higher costs for operations and maintenance, despite numerous budget cuts.

The District is governed by a Board of Directors elected by local voters. The District serves the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year with a limited number of staff and firefighters.

We run a tight ship and haven’t asked the public for a revenue increase in over 30 years!

The District responded to over 2,200 calls last year. That number increases every year, and costs continue to rise, and without additional funding will not be able to maintain the current level of service. In addition, our aging facilities are falling behind on necessary repairs, maintenance, and upgrades.

This Fire Protection Services Measure includes strict accountability provisions, including an annual financial audit. This is in conjunction with the District’s current transparent financial reporting system.

Watch for your Measure N mailed ballot in early April. Ballot are due on May 7.

Fire District Access & Rapid Entry

When an emergency strikes, help is only a call away. However, people who live by themselves or have special mobility issues, what happens when they can’t get to the door to let help in?

There’s no need to hide a key or rely on a neighbor to be home when an emergency strikes. A hidden key can be found by a burglar. And, your neighbor isn’t home every hour of the day.

The Knox-Box® Rapid Entry System is a secure emergency access program developed for property owners and first responders. First Responders across North America use the Knox-Box Rapid Entry System to prevent costly entry damage while protecting property and lives. When a fire breaks out or there is a medical emergency, Knox® products allow immediate entry into buildings and property without forced entry damage or delay. Property owners store entrance keys, access cards and floor plans in high-security Knox-Box key boxes mounted near building entrances. Each Knox-Box purchased by a property owner is keyed to a single master key controlled by the Fire District.

In addition to key boxes and vaults, Knox padlocks and key switches operate with the same master key. There are so many gated homes today that fire and police departments are delayed when responding to emergency calls. Increased property damage and even total loss is a threat when property is not accessible.

The Knox Rapid Entry System was developed to save property and lives.

Commonly Used Systems
  1. For residential use Residential Knoxboxes or Knox Homebox
  2. For chained entry gates such as chain link, the Knox® Padlock works well and is less expensive. The Knox® Padlock is then placed in series like a link between your personal pad lock and a link of chain.
  3. For electric gates the Knox® Key Switches lock core with Fire Dept plate is generally mounted beside the key pad.
  4. For commercial buildings seeking high security, the Knox® Company has several options, most common in our community is the Knox® Box Model 3200.

We are bringing our Electronic Sign Brick Fundraising Campaign to a close in October. TheSe brick will be the foundation for our new community service sign in front of the station. Orginally we planned on a fully electronic sign to display public service announcements, but we have fallen short of our goal. So, we are adjusting the type of sign we purchase.
The Bricks are still available to
purchase for $100 for a 4"x8", $250 for a 8"x8", and $500 for a 12"x12". Each brick can contain a message of your choice. (Space depends on Size of brick)
Acting Battalion Chief Randy Burns and Fire Chief Steve Henry will be at the Waterloo Gun & Bocce Club, 4343 N Ashley on Thursday Sept 29th at 5:30 during their Open Mike Night and Thursday Night Football with applications and will accept purchases.
Applications and purchase is always available at the Fire Station 6925 E Foppiano Lane, Stockton.

As our fire season progresses, so do the wildfires. Tonight, WMFD rallied to put together yet another team to assist our brothers in need and Captain K Culbertson, Capt J Harper, and Eng M Parker joined Strike Team XSJ 4178C with units from Clements FD, Thorton FD, Liberty FD and Lathrop-Manteca FD, led by Chief S Butler from Woodbridge FD and responded immediate need to Victorville, CA to help fight the Pilot Fire on the San Bernardino National Forest. Remember LCES, Lookouts, Communications, Escape Routes, and Safety Zones.

National Night Out - The Waterloo Morada Fire District would like to thank the members of our community that either hosted or attended last night's National Night Out events. WMFD was invited to 13 different locations. We enjoyed spending the evening with you and your neighbors, and the food was delicious. Our members expressed to me all of the positive comments made regarding the service our Fire District provides to the community and it comforting to know that the hard work by the men and women of this Fire District does not go unnoticed.

This was my first event since I assumed the full time position of Fire Chief and I was welcomed into the community with open arms. Thank you.  I would also like to thank Morada Area Association's Donna Augustin, for her hospitality and coordination efforts.
As many of you expressed concerns last night over the Fire District's fiscal deficit, believe me it is also a concern for the Board of Directors and Fire Administration. We are developing a plan to address our shortfalls and will develop a Strategic Plan that will take us into the future, with your help.

I look forward to being a part of this community and meeting more of our customers.

Steve Henry, Fire Chief

Trailhead Incident - As quickly as our crews come back, another request for assistance comes in. Our Engine returned with our crew on June 27th, this morning we staffed it for a request to the Trailhead Incident near Placerville with 3 fresh personnel. XSJ 4176C formed up at 0500 with us, Liberty FD, Clements FD, Thorton FD and Linden Peters FD, and Chief Seibert from Liberty FD as thier leader for this new fire. This is going to be a long summer and with our Nation's Birthday coming up next weekend, there will be a lot of celebrations and possibilities for new incidents. Please have a safe holiday.

On June 20th,  the San Joaquin Operational Area was requested to fill a resource order through Region IV for a Type III Strike Team.  XSJ 4175C with resources from Waterloo Morada FD (E15-3), Lathrop-Manteca FD (E30), Linden Peters (E5-3), Clements FD (E6-3) and Liberty FD (E12-6) being led by Strike Team Leader Chief Neely from Lathrop-Manteca FD and a Trainee T Green from Ripon FD went enroute to the Border Fire near Potrero, CA. at 15:20, and arrived at 01:34 am this morning at the Potrero County Park. The Fire Crews reported to the line this morning and have been assigned to Division A.
Type 3 Fire Engine
Fire Engines are typed for specific duties inside and outside of their jurisdictions.  A type 3 engine is a smaller engine, with specific wildland firefighting equipment on it.

Strike Team
The definition of a strike team is "Five (5) like resources with common communications and a leader, assembled for a tactical assignment on an emergency".  A Type 3 engine must be staffed with 3 personnel, making the total staffing of a strike team is 17 firefighters.
